What is a blind spot bias? How you get infected with this bias and why you should quarantine this bias?

Bias is defined as

an inclination or prejudice against someone or something.

All of us have some of the other biases for something or someone. However, a vast majority of us feel that we are not biased, we are wise but the other person is unwise and biased.

For example, if you ask a religious person which religion is best? His answer will invariably be your own religion. You will give a vague example, science and other reasoning to support that. You may also take a step further and try to prove why the followers of other religion are so unwise!

A blind-spot-bias is “Bias of Bias” or the ultimate bias by which you believe that you are not biased. No argument can change this view. We get infected by this because our brain simply can not comprehend the fact that it can be wrong.

The one way to balance this bias is using: “Counterintuitiveness“. Say your decision is: “I won’t go to class”, bias is “I learn nothing in class”. The counter-intuitive decision would be “There may be something in class that I am not picking up, let’s check out the class”.

Once you start accepting counter-intuitive facts, you slowly get over the blind spot bias to get a broader perspective to things.
